VISA Electron, the electronic payment card from VISA, was launched in the 1980s, to encourage cashless payments at electronic terminals. VISA Electron cardholders are also able to withdraw cash from approximately 800,000 ATMs in over 150 countries.
There are already 260 million cards in circulation worldwide; 58 million of them in Europe.
Since VISA Electron cards do not have an embossed card number, they can only be used for electronic transactions.
