Goods shipments to high-risk countries

Mail order lets you sell goods without you ever seeing the customer in person – or a credit card. You, the business, receive an address from whoever placed the order, along with information as to how your customer wishes to pay.

In all payment methods apart from COD, your customer can claim not to have received the goods or that the goods are damaged, or whoever ordered the goods may not be the same as the holder of the card the amount was charged to.

We would like to protect your from credit card abuse; especially credit card abuse leads to charge-backs and losses for your mail-order business. We would like to emphasise that our terms for credit card acceptance and terms for receivables settlement in our general terms of business only allow exports to certain countries. Shipments to high-risk countries, however, are not permitted. For your own protection, you should not accept or handle any orders by credit card with delivery addresses in Asia or Africa. We regard the following countries as particularly hazardous for goods shipments:

Africa:

especially Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt

Asia:

Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore

Eastern Europe

especially Rumania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Balkans (former Yugoslavia), Hungary

Western Europe

Great Britain (specifically Greater London), Netherlands (specifically Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Hakfort)

USA

Credit cards from all over the world are used. Credit cards from the UK and USA are especially popular.

There are certain behaviours amongst order issuers that should raise your suspicion of fraud. Here are a few points you should especially watch out for:

  • The cardholder wishes to have the invoice divided up amongst several credit cards.
  • There are several credit card numbers with the same name or different names on one order.
  • The customer already indicates that there may be problems, such as: “If this card doesn’t work, I’ll send you my wife’s credit card number,” or “use one of the following numbers.”
  • Shipment has to be as fast as possible, regardless of shipping costs.
  • The ordering party insists on being given the tracking ID of the carrier (note: intention to intercept the shipment).
  • Unusually high number of orders or a high goods value (especially new customers).
  • Orders via the Web are sent using a “free” provider, that is, a provider without a contract with the customer.

If you have any doubts as to the order, leave them alone. Always ask for the card security code with the order, and include it with your request for permission.

Carefully review incoming orders according to the above plan. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.
