First restaurant in Germany: Five Guys to rely on Concardis for payments

The American fast-food chain is expanding to Germany and, to do so, is placing its trust in the experience of the Eschborn-based payment services provider

Eschborn, 29 November 2017. On 4 December 2017, beloved American fast-food chain Five Guys is opening its first German restaurant in Frankfurt am Main. Concardis will ensure that on-site payments are processed smoothly: the Eschborn-based full-service payment provider will assume responsibility for network operations, as well as credit and debit card acceptance, for Five Guys. Thus, customers of the fast-food restaurant will be able to make cashless payments quickly and conveniently – or even contactless payments using near-field communication (NFC). The card terminals are already equipped with the technology required for mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

The burger chain has grown rapidly in recent years. The first restaurant outside North America opened in London in 2013, and in 2016, expansion made it to the European continent in Paris. The company is now not only active in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and France, but also in Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Five Guys operates nearly 1,500 restaurants worldwide, and further restaurants in Germany are planned for Essen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin and Munich. Concardis will manage network operation and acquiring for the entirety of the German market.

The success of Five Guys is founded upon the high quality of the products made, as well as the high level of freedom of choice given to customers when designing their burger: rather than frozen patties, Five Guys’ burgers are made with fresh minced meat, and the customer has a choice of toppings and sauces. Former US President Barack Obama is known to be a fan of the fast-food burger chain, but he is certainly not alone: according to a recent study by market research company Harris Insights and Analytics, Five Guys is the favourite burger restaurant in the United States.
