The Otto Group is an international retail company and service provider. The Group comprises many well-known companies such as Sportscheck, Heine and the parcel service Hermes. Founded by Werner Otto in 1949, the company quickly developed into a giant in the world of mail-order business. Since then, the Otto Group has repeatedly shown a flair for the zeitgeist and, in the meantime, has become a globally active company.

Concardis has supported the Otto Group with its cashless payment processing since the 1990s. Originally tasked as the acquirer for mail-order business over the telephone, Concardis is now the Otto Group’s partner for e-commerce payments as well as in the bricks-and-mortar shops. Questions quickly arose during expansion of the online business about how to prevent credit card fraud. Together with the employees of Otto, Concardis was able to find the answer.

Fraud prevention is an important topic, especially in e-commerce.

 

The most important factor in fraud prevention is attentive employees. In cooperation with the investigative authorities, Concardis developed a seminar to help familiarise employees of the Otto Group with the topic and to train them in dealing with peculiarities. It was a great success: as a result, credit card abuse declined markedly. Since then, Concardis has continuously advised and accompanied the Otto Group on all questions of card security. This is a relevant topic for the Otto Group, since the majority of turnover in retail is generated through e-commerce – amounting to more than five billion euros in 2013 and 2014.
